"A complex personality, Ion Theodorescu-Sion has made an original contribution to the development of Romanian art.  The portraits of his first creative period, between 1911 and 1920, mainly manifested color phases of a single color: blue phase between 1909 and 1911, the green phase between 1912 and 1914, and a brick brown phase between 1919 and 1920. 

The work done in this interval can be recognized with Expressionist influences in modulating paste and deep contours.  The second period, from 1920 to 1930 is the release of influences and articulation of style with monumental character, thus creating works defined by paste consistency, preciousness and viscous density of matter.  The works of 1930, were considered the virtuosity and manifested the full palette to improve brightness, by increasing the amount of white dominance.
